Each week American Idol selects a specific genre and the American Idol performers have to sing a song from that genre. It is mind boggling to me the types of songs that these singers are forced to sing. One week the American Idol contestants had to sing British Invasion songs, another week the American Idol contestants had to sing "Classics" which included Fred Astaire, frank sinatra and Bobby Darin. Another week the American Idol contestants had to sing Diana Ross, even though when they choose Diana Ross on their own the judges tell them they picked someone too hard to copy. Another week the American Idol contestants had to sing songs by No Doubt? Are you kidding me? This previous week they had to sing Latin Songs? What?

The competition is getting tougher, as evidenced with the exit of Siobhan Magnus. It is no longer the best singer who gets to stay; it is the fans choice of the best.
